Dr. Justin L. Gooden

Founder | MK Wound & Limb Preservation Center

An accomplished leader in the health and wound care industries, Dr. Justin L. Gooden has excelled as the founder of the MK Wound and Limb Preservation Center since 2021. Through his strong work ethic and expertise in the treatment of wounds and diabetic ulcers—including venous ulcers, traumatic wounds, and surgical dehiscence—he has strived to transform the approach to wound care in the United States, which has long been underserved.

He predominantly treats patients 55 and over and offers free or reduced-cost services to uninsured individuals, dedicating himself to improving their lives and setting new standards for health care through holistic practices that have been replicated throughout the country and internationally. Previously, there were no standalone clinics that addressed all aspects of this critical health care area, including nutrition, emotional support, and venous and arterial health. From the inception of his Wichita, Kansas-based clinic, Dr. Gooden has focused not only on the physical aspects of wound care but also on mitigating the emotional impact on patients.

After earning a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Kansas Medical Center in 2004, Dr. Gooden pursued a residency in general surgery in Spartanburg, South Carolina, honing his skills and building immense experience. He then completed his residency at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, where he would further establish himself as a staff member in its Wound Care Center and Pediatric Emergency Room from 2012 to 2023.

In addition, Dr. Gooden has been devoted to the American Medical Association and the American Heart Association for more than a decade, serving as a co-chairman and fundraiser for one of its most popular social events, the Heart Ball. More recently, he has lent his expertise as a speaker to numerous national conferences in the field, including those in Tennessee, Arizona, and Puerto Rico. Outside of his primary endeavors, he’s extremely active in his local church and believes his faith and involvement in the church, beginning in his youth, are key reasons for his success.

Looking ahead, Dr. Gooden plans to expand his company within the local market and surrounding areas by opening more clinics in small cities and towns that currently lack access to wound care. His goal is to make these services accessible to everyone, with the ultimate aim of establishing a nationwide presence. Always striving to guide the younger generation of medical practitioners, he advises them to “envision what they will be doing 20 years from now and ensure they still wake up each morning excited to go to work. Their decisions should not be based on financial gains or external recognition but on a passion for the profession.”

Dr. Gooden, a devoted family man, and his wife, Michaela, have six children—spanning 14 to 27—and two grandchildren.
